In 2005 and 2006, The Western Transportation Institute (WTI) researched the cost-benefits associated with NorthWest Weathernet’s unique meteorological operations program facilitated through the Utah Department of Transportation, Transportation Operations Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The report is important to transportation interests on all levels of government. The study is unique in that it best quantifies the cost-benefits associated with weather forecasting services for maintenance interests throughout the year. Important aspects of the study not included relate to specific methodologies of program development and specific implementation practices, requirements and guidelines.
